Absence of Mind

I stood in the doorway and looked out at the light
I wished for freedom in the dark of night
The other side of me causes so much pain
To cleanse my soul I walked out into the air
I ran my hands across my face and through my hair
Trying to wash away the bad memories with the rain

The good times turn bad, I must endure
To all those around, for them I ensure
Your visit shall be quiet and brief

As the mist hits the ground I see fits of rage
The padding on the walls turns another page
And the pen adds another incident to the scroll
Each time the blank is just a little bit longer
As I grow weaker you grow that much stronger
And on my length of stay takes it’s toll

The good times are good, for long I am sure
The air that surrounds me, is no longer pure
The light is growing dimmer by the day
The ties that bind me, the locks that hold me in
The score in your favor, I have no chance to win
This fall from grace such a price to pay

As I look out the window from above
I can see now what I have become
Weary and broken a solitary man
Only a shell of the man that I once was
No way to rise above
Without my legs I can make no stand

The absence of mind, causes such pain
They alter reports, they label me insane
The book is closed I must give in
The ties that bind me, the locks that hold me in
The score in your favor, I have no chance to win
This fall from grace such a price to pay
